India Talks - 2

The recovered US Markets seem to be promising as ever before, however what they can not neglect are large growing economies or as we would like to believe ignoring the 'bubble economy' remarks made by the west.Of course, towards the end of 2010 we did hear money flowing back to the developed nations but we have the numbers showing up better picture, specially when it comes to the growth rates, like :

GDP Real Growth rate : India (8.3%), 2nd highest after China & US (2.7%) following at 3rd position.
Industry Production Growth rate : India (9.7%) & US (3.3%)
Public Debt (as a % of GDP) : India (55.9) & US (58.9)
It is only when the Indian Economy curbs the Negative Factors hampering the economy like Inflation, still touching 8.66% (Apr '11), the rising Food Price Index or dropping Industrial Output & similar such factors we can think of maintaining our much needed growth rate which would induce other's faith in our economy & like a vicious circle further help us.The FIIs too have shown a fluctuating trend upto this year :

India Talks - 1

This man needs no introduction.Simple & smart are the words which go for him as shows his latest advice on his really popular FB page :
"Above all stick with what you know. Don't get too fancy.."
How true.

As I scrolled down the page to get some really more meaningful insights from this eminent personality, I happened to come across this

I think the West is going to do well. I'd rather be in the West than the East...

This was almost an year back, however, his last & actually his first to India showed something different. The reason for his visit being the launch of his firm,Berkshire Hathway Inc's Insurance selling portal, as it tied up as a corporate agent for India's Bajaj Allianz General Insurance. While he ventured into one of the fastest growing economy of Asia or rather world, a statement which really hit the headlines clearly stated how he regretted not coming to India a bit sooner.Undoubtedly, as Steve Forbes quotes, Global Billionaires reflect the Global Markets. But is India really Shining..? To be continued in the next post.

Idioms - 2

Continuing the Idioms Post ...
Case :1.
I came across this Question with the 2 closest possible choices I had narrowed down to :
The gyrfalcon, an Arctic bird of prey, has survived a close brush with extinction; its numbers are now five times greater than when the use of DDT was sharply restricted in the early 1970’s.
A. extinction; its numbers are now five times greater than
B. extinction; its numbers are now five times more than

Now there has to be some pre-defined rule in English for this because without it, the Colloquial English has made both the answer choices equally probable specially to the non-native speakers like us.

Now, the rule book says - More than is for Quantity & Greater than is for Quality. As explained by the instructor herself here. In a set of 5 nos {1,2,3,4,5} if I add 6th no as 6 {1,2,3,4,5,6} I can say 2nd set has greater numbers than 1st.So greater is for - Number of Numbers, i.e to show/compare their Quantity.

So, in this case, as we clearly have to talk about the numbers of Birds, it has to be GREATER THAN.
You can find more discussions (official ones) about it here.

High Up

So Blogger is back to work after 2 bad days & so is my Internet connection which has now officially joined my basic 'roti kapda & makaan' amenities list (lucky me to write that..given there are so many who have to struggle for the basic ones too)

Quoted :
if you are reading this you are lucky enough to have an ipod or computer or lap top but there are some kids out there who doesnt even have one meal a daybe thankful for what you have.

& here I sit sleepless thankfully to the 1st stupidest horror movie I watched today. No doubt, I knew such flicks are stupid but damn me ! I had to experiment it once & the last it is.(Lol No..am at my exaggeration best today ! )

However, there is one more reason for the nation to be sleepless & that can very well be the steepest Petrol Hike in our history & what could be worse then the fact that this game though being played by our so-called Politicians since long will just speed up for the bad of the common man.It is just Petrol prices as of now but shocks are yet to come in the other areas namely Cooking Gas, Kerosene oil & other oil products.

The long overdue reforms in the Oil Sector will now in turn show the bad consequences (thanks to the bad poltics), when consumers, the aam aadmi will start facing such hikes more steeply as if the inflation rates were not already worrisome.Of course, the govt waited for the auspicious after-poll-result-declaration planning like any smart businessman & couldn't delay the hikes any further even when the banks recently raised there lending rates, milk prices saw an increase all over the country & many similar rises being reported almost at the same time. And, this is not just about any ruling party.Coalition or not, things in our country now run this way & it seems like we Indians have already adjusted to it, sadly like everything else as the Petrol Pumps get crowded the day before the price-hike-day !

Food for thought.

Never cut a tree down in the wintertime.
Never make a negative decision in the low time.
Never make your most important decisions when you are in your worst moods.
Wait. Be patient. The storm will pass. The spring will come.
Robert H. Schuller

How inspiring ! So what would its corollary say..Don't make important decisions when you are too Happy or at an emotional high ?! Coz' important decisions taken when you are in your best of moods may turn out to be too good to be practical in the normal times. Now who defines this 'Normal' ? Isn't that just supposed to be a relative thing too. Like a pendulum, whenever its at neither of the extremes, it is tending towards this normal. How long would it stay at normal, what about all those moments when life is in between the normal & the extreme.Doesn't that defy many of the rules which states what is good or bad, when everything at the end is relative & with respect to each other !
